Colours in Your Diet.....

Many of the pigments found in fruits and vegetables are photochemical. Oh! someone just asked what photochemical are............

  Dr. Herber and Susan Bowerman originated seven color system organized as color wheel .

RED - Lycopene, Phytopene, Phytofluene .
Found in : Tomatoes,tomato sauce,vegetable, juice,watermelon

GREEN - Glucasinolates, Isothicyanates, Indole-3 Carbinol and Folic acid
Found in : Broccoli, brussel, sprouts, bok chok, caulicflower,cabbage

GREEN YELLOW - Lutein, Zeaxanthin
Found in : Avocado, spinach, kale, green beans, green peppers, collard, mustard

ORANGE - Alpha and Beta Carotene
Found in : carrots, pumpkin, squash, oranges, apricots, cell taloupe

ORANGE YELLOW - Vitamins C Flavonoids
Found in : oranges, juice, tangerines, peaches, lemons, limes, pineapple

RED PURPLE - Anthocyanins, Ellagic acid, Flavonoids
Found in : Grapes and juice, cherries, red wine, strawberries, raisins

WHITE GREEN - Allyl Sulfides
Found in : Garlic, onions, and chives

 

 

 

How to get enough:

There are things that you can do ! 
  • Eating a variety of vegetable and fruits
  • Eat more grains
  • Don't forget herbs and spices
  • Decrease portion size of meat
  • Keep fruits and vegetables stocked in sight
  • Reach for juice instead of coffee or soda
  • Add chopped carrots fruit to cereal, yoghurt, pancakes or even a milkshakes
  • Snack on fresh chopped carrots, celery, broccoli and peppers
  • Store dried fruit for a quick snack at home or work
